3D-Miniatures.com Frequently Asked Questions

Our Figures

Our figures may require some cleaning / assembly before painting. Because of this, we consider our products suitable for kids 12 yrs old or older.

What kind of material are your figures cast in?

  • Tin-based pewter

How do I prepare them for assembly?

  • Soak in hot soapy water for a few minutes, remove, pat dry, and then let dry fully.
  • File or scrape off any large mold lines.

How do I assemble them?

  • Super glue is the reccomended adhesive. Be sure to roughen both surfaces before gluing, this will increase the strength of the final bond. Some parts may need to be pinned to ensure a strong bond.

What kind of preparation is needed for painting?

  • Once assembled, another soak in hot soapy water and a light scrubbing with a soft brush will remove finger oils and ensure a strong bond for primer and paint.
  • When the figure is completely dry, prime it with a good primer. I reccomend Krylon primer as it is widely available, cheap, dries quick and performs very well. Use at least 2 light coats to avoid runs and get proper coverage.

What paints do you reccomend

  • Craft paints can work in a pinch, but film hardness and opacity are not as good as dedicated miniature paints. They are cheap and widely available though.
    • Delta Ceramcoat: Good coverage, cheap, lots of colors, good flow, lots of mediums.
    • DecoArt: Great selection of metallics.
    • Folkart: Chalky, good mediums
    • Apple-Barrel: Not good for miniature painting
    • While not the best for painting figures, craft paints are very servicable for painting terrain. A $3 pot of dedicated miniatures paint will not cover much terrain-wise!
  • Dedicated Miniature Paints, which usually provide some colors which are less intense but provide high-coverage for base coating, and more intense colors for hilighting/shading. These are much costlier than craft paints.
